Date and Time
2024/10/13~12/8
9:30-17:00 (Admission until 16:30)
Art culture was nurtured from early on in the suburbs of Matsumae Town, the northernmost castle town in Japan, where the Matsumae domain had its residence. Kakizaki Habikyo, who will celebrate the 260th anniversary of his birth in 2024, was a famous literati painter who also served as a retainer of the Matsumae domain.
This exhibition introduces outstanding works by Nabiki and other Japanese painters associated with the Matsumae domain, old photographs and crafts from the late Edo and Meiji periods, and materials related to Matsumae Kagura, which was designated a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2018. Visitors will enjoy the essence of the Matsumae culture through the unparalleled masterpieces nurtured in this region.
