The Hokuren Distance Challenge is a competition that connects "hope" with all the Hokuren family involved in the competition, including "spectators, runners, and supporters." The records at the first race, the Fukagawa competition, will be eligible for the final application qualification record period for the 109th Japan Athletics Championships.
It is a very valuable event for athletes aiming to compete in the Tokyo 2025 World Championships in Athletics (hereafter referred to as the Tokyo 2025 World Championships in Athletics), which will be held in Tokyo for the first time in 31 years, as a stage for breaking the participation standard record and as a final preparation before the event. In addition to university students aiming for the autumn university ekiden and corporate athletes aiming for the New Year ekiden, it is also an essential event for athletes aiming to do well in winter marathons, with their sights set on participating in the Aichi Asian Games in 2026.
