Upopoy for summer vacation!
Date and Time
2024/8/10~18
9:00~20:00
*The 13th (Tue) will be a special opening day.
Upopoy (Ainu Symbolic Space), a national center for learning and communicating the history and culture of the indigenous Ainu people, will be holding a special summer event, "Summer Vacation at Upopoy!" for nine days from Saturday, August 10 to Sunday, August 18, 2024. Children and adults alike can experience the "crane dance" where they flap their wings together, as well as participate in craft workshops, to experience, feel, and enjoy Ainu culture and create special summer memories.
This event allows participants of all ages to become familiar with Ainu culture using all five senses through dancing and craft workshops, and the experience of greeting staff in the Ainu language.
On the evenings of the 10th (Sat) and 17th (Sat), we will be holding a program called "Porotokotan Nights," where you can experience the traditions of Ainu culture by learning about songs, dances and other performing arts that have been passed down at Porotokotan (formerly the Ainu Museum, closed at the end of March 2018).
Participating in many programs will give you the opportunity to experience Ainu culture from various angles. We hope that you will experience Ainu culture at Upopoy while feeling the Hokkaido summer and deepen your understanding of Ainu culture with your family.
