The 100th anniversary of the completion of the former Hokkai Can Warehouse No. 3 will be celebrated this October.

Warehouse No. 3 was constructed in 1924, the year after the Otaru Canal was completed. It is designated as a historical building by Otaru City and has long been loved by citizens as a symbolic building of Otaru as well as the Otaru Canal.

In 2020, the building was in danger of being demolished due to aging, but with the support of many voices calling for its preservation, it was transferred to Otaru City free of charge in December 2021, thus avoiding demolition.

After various discussions on how to utilize the facility, the inside of the warehouse, which had been off-limits to visitors, was renovated last October, and the approximately 200 m2 interior space and part of the second floor balcony became available for use, attracting more than 4,000 visitors. And the event will be held again in 2024.

The event will be held simultaneously at Warehouse No. 3 and Canal Park, and during the event period, visitors will be able to take a canal cruise to and from both places. The event will showcase the charm of the North Canal area, with Warehouse No. 3 as the gateway, as well as its future potential.

Warehouse No. 3: Food x Art
Warehouse No. 3 will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a special lighting display and media art.
Food-related stores will open on the 2nd floor of Warehouse 3. Take out your food and enjoy it while strolling along the North Canal.

Canal Park: Kita Canal Marche
Kita Canal Marche will be held at the rest area in the park. Various stores will be open for sales of goods and other items.
Kitchen cars will be lined up in the park.
Several sharing spots with parasols will be set up. Please enjoy the relaxing time flowing in the canal park.
DJ events will be held, and at night, a video will be projected on the former NYK Line. (Saturday 12 and Sunday 13, 15:00-20:00, video projection from 18:00)

Water transportation (Warehouse No.3 ↔︎ Canal Park)
A special canal cruise service will be operated between Warehouse No. 3 (:00) and Canal Park (:30).
An event ticket is required to board the cruise.

A symposium will be held at the auditorium on the third floor of the office building of Hokkai Can Co. (Monday, 14th (national holiday) 18:00-20:00)
