This year, the Hakodate Port Festival "Wassoi Hakodate" will be held to commemorate the 166th anniversary of the port's opening. Many citizens dress up in their own costumes and dance the "Hakodate Port Dance" and "Hakodate Squid Dance" as they parade through the city, creating so much excitement that even the spectators along the way start dancing. The powerful portable shrines that lead the parade and the gorgeously decorated floats are must-sees in this main summer parade in Hakodate.
