Yuki Yamamoto Exhibition

Date and Time

2025/6/6~29

11:00-18:00 Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Yuki Yamamoto was born in Obihiro in 1981. He graduated from the Graduate School of Education, Hokkaido University of Education, majoring in art education (Western painting) in 2007. He is currently based in Sapporo.
Yamamoto's paintings depict a complex interweaving of colored circles and hollowed-out circles in layered transparent layers just a few millimeters thick. The actual depth felt by the layers and the illusory depth created by the colors and shapes coexist on the screen, bringing out the profound color space and the physical appeal of the painting itself.
Additionally, by hiding a number of different arrangement patterns within the canvas, the artist raises questions about the uncertainty of the act of seeing itself and the multifaceted interactions of things, by abstractly replacing them.
In recent years, he has collaborated with programmers to develop a dedicated PC application, and has also introduced a random number drawing system into some of his works.
This gives the impression that the artist's own existence within the work is suspended in mid-air, and changes have also appeared in the relationship between the circles and the relationship between the artist and the work.
Furthermore, the Fundamentals Program has led to a new attempt in collaboration with the Keio University Tomoeyama Ryurai Laboratory. In this collaboration, the circular motifs used in Yamamoto's previous works are expanded to spheres. This exhibition will feature approximately 15 of Yamamoto's latest works, which show a variety of approaches.
