Overview
The Monbetsu Port Festival began as a prewar "Port Festival" to express gratitude for the benefits received from Monbetsu Port. In 1954 (Showa 29), it became the "Municipality Establishment Commemorative Port Festival", and the following year in 1955 (Showa 30), it was renamed the "Monbetsu Tourist Port Festival" and was held for the first time, with more content. In addition to over 100 stalls around the old station street, various events are held on the special stage and in the Honcho 4-chome pedestrian mall, and the main attraction is the "Okhotsk Fireworks Festival". 7,000 fireworks are launched from Monbetsu Port, painting the sea of Okhotsk and the night sky vividly.
