At the Otaru City Nishin Goten, as a collaborative project with the "Otaru Shukutsu Nishin Otate Matsuri" (held on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th), we will be holding a special lecture on the herring that supported Otaru's development, titled "Swimming Through Otaru's History with Herring."
The lecture will cover herring, an essential element in discussing Otaru's history, using materials from the museum's collection to discuss the peak period, the uses of herring, food culture, and its connection with the Kitamaebune ships.
