Umemura Garden and Baiuntei

Umemura Garden and Baiuntei are a park and rest facility that are open to the public. Umemura Garden is designated as a cultural property of Yakumo Town, and was kindly donated to Yakumo Town by the Umemura family, who then developed it, making it available to many people. Within the garden are the Baiuntei rest facility, as well as the annex and storehouse of the former Umemura residence.

The garden is a strolling pond garden, with a central pond filled with spring water that never dries up throughout the year. Around the pond, artificial hills and dry landscape gardens are cleverly placed. There are also lanterns made of concrete, which were rare at the time the garden was built.

The garden is home to a variety of azaleas, including purple azalea, Japanese rhododendron, mountain azalea, Satsuki azalea, Kurume azalea, Ryukyu azalea, Enkianthus campanulata, and Yodogawa azalea, as well as trees such as yew, Siberian cherry, Somei-Yoshino cherry, Japanese red pine, maple, and Japanese cedar, and flowers such as violets, wood sorrel, rhododendron, morning glory, and daffodils, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery throughout the seasons.
