Shinshinotsu Village is located almost in the center of the Ishikari Plain, approximately a 50-minute drive from the major city of Sapporo. With a population of about 3,200, it is a village whose key industry is agriculture, with about 70% of its total area being rural countryside.
As agriculture is its main industry, the village's primary specialty products, nurtured by the blessings of the Ishikari River, include rice, wheat, vegetables, beans, and flowers. There are also processed goods such as local sake, doburoku (unrefined sake), kimchi, and miso made from rice and vegetables. Its moderate proximity to the city offers convenience, allowing one to enjoy the dual benefits of a relaxed rural life surrounded by a 360-degree horizon.
For tourism, visitors can enjoy camping, park golf, and farming experiences at Shinotsu Park in the summer, while smelt fishing on Lake Shinotsu is a famous winter activity.
