Takikawa City is a core city in the Naka-Sorachi region, located almost in the center of Hokkaido, midway between Sapporo and Asahikawa. It is situated between the Ishikari River and the Sorachi River, both designated as Hokkaido Heritage sites, and about 60% of the city's area is covered by rich greenery such as forests and farmland. It has long flourished as a key transportation hub and a commercial town, boasting excellent access, being about 50 minutes by JR limited express train from Sapporo and about 85 minutes from New Chitose Airport.

The climate is continental, with a significant temperature difference between summer and winter; temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius in summer and drop below minus 20 degrees Celsius in winter. It is one of Hokkaido's heaviest snowfall areas, with winter snow accumulation reaching about seven meters, but these harsh seasonal changes nurture beautiful nature. The city's name originates from the Ainu word "Sorapuchi" (meaning "place where the waterfall descends"), and the blessings of pure water are alive in the town.

Its greatest pride is the rapeseed blossom fields, which boast one of the largest cultivation areas in Japan. In mid-May, a yellow carpet spreads across the landscape, and the "Takikawa Canola Flower Festival" fascinates many people. It is also a town for sky sports, taking advantage of an environment where updrafts are common. At "Takikawa Skypark," you can enjoy introductory glider flights at any time, the only place in Japan to offer this. It is a city full of charm, welcoming you with fields of flowers in full bloom and the romance of the wide-open sky.
