Cherry blossoms are a beautiful sight every spring. Pink and white cherry blossoms are well-known, but did you know that there is also a "green cherry blossom"? This type of cherry blossom is called "Gyoiko-zakura," and it boasts a different kind of beauty from the others. In this issue, we will introduce the characteristics of Gyoiko-zakura and the spots where you can see them in Ebetsu City, Sapporo, and Otaru.

Unlike regular cherry blossoms, the "Mikoro-zakura" is characterized by its green petals. This cherry blossom is characterized by its slow opening, with a strong green color in the early stages of blooming and pink blending in as time goes by. In Ebetsu, they usually start blooming in late April and are at their best by mid-May, but this year's blooming is expected to be earlier.

The best place in Ebetsu to see the Mikoe-Yellow Cherry Blossoms is at the Ebetsu Public Health Center in Nopporo, about a 17-minute walk from JR Takasago Station, just after getting off the Chuo Bus at the "Public Health Center-mae" bus stop. Although the cherry trees are located on the grounds, their beauty can be fully enjoyed from the sidewalk.

In addition to Ebetsu, you can also see Goromoizakura in other areas such as Sapporo and Otaru. In Sapporo, Maeda Forest Park and Hoshikan Ryokuchi in Teinei-ku, and in Otaru, Otaru Park are well-known spots for oiriboshi zakura. There are also other places where you can see the Mikoro-zakura in Usu Zenkoji Nature Park in Date City and Noboribetsu Onsen Onsen Hot Spring Resort.
