"The Closer We Get, the More We Clash in Our Songs": She is Legend (XAI x Konomi Suzuki) Special Interview Ahead of their 6/9 Sapporo Show
Elevating each other's strengths to show an even more evolved form. Facing the Sapporo show as a "serious showdown."
A scene from the Tokyo show
――You spent a long time together on the last tour, and I imagine your mutual trust and respect have grown stronger. It seems we can expect to see a powered-up version of you both at the Sapporo show!
XAI: The last tour was about figuring out what kind of unit Siileje is and the meaning of performing as a duo. The final show was the culmination of those thoughts and efforts. Having surpassed that, our combat power has increased dramatically! This new album has more songs that are meant for live shows, so I think it will be like a "serious showdown" where neither we nor the fans will have a moment to rest.
Suzuki: I really feel the high expectations people have for us. We actually have unreleased songs that are still being recorded, so our musical range is still expanding. I think this will be a tour where we can show sides of ourselves that we've never shown before.
XAI: It feels like just when we thought we defeated the final boss, an even stronger enemy appeared (laughs). I think a different kind of intensity has begun.
――So it's a continuation of the last tour's final show, and you're entering a new season.
Suzuki: I saw a comment on social media that said, "The closer the two of them get, the more they clash in their songs, and it's awesome." I think that's absolutely true. As singers, we are completely different types, but we acknowledge each other, and the tour brought us closer... As a result, we battle it out on stage (laughs). What do you think, XAI-chan?
XAI: I agree (laughs). At the recent Tokyo show, I felt a competitive spirit, like, "Suzuki-san is climbing on the platform, so I will too!" but then there was a moment at the end of a song where our timing synced up perfectly, and I was deeply moved. I think that's something born from the experience of the last tour, and I hope there are many more moments like that on this tour. I really believe there's a kind of trust that can only be nurtured on stage.
Suzuki: We've both had so many experiences, not just on our tours together but also in our solo activities, and when we come together, we level up immensely. I think we both feel the moments when the other's brilliance shines even brighter.
The two clashing through song during the Tokyo show
――So you are rivals in a sense, but also comrades, and someone to look up to. That creates a chemical reaction and elevates you both. On a side note, since you'll be in Sapporo, is there anything you'd like to do?
XAI: Last time, I made some mistakes and was feeling down... Suzuki-san bought muscat grapes with me at a convenience store, and I was so happy that she listened to me while we ate them. This time, I plan to burn out completely, so after the show, I want to go out for a "night parfait" with a clear mind (laughs).
Suzuki: The coveted Zepp Sapporo. First, I want to enjoy the view from there. And I'd also like to talk with the fans. Siileje's shows usually have a stoic style of delivering music relentlessly, but this time the setlist is quite intense. There might be moments where we'll need to take a break and talk, or it could get tough (laughs).
――Thank you very much. Lastly, could you please say a word to your fans in Hokkaido?
XAI: This tour is an even more formidable one. We want to keep changing and evolving through it. I hope you'll join the concert with the feeling of fighting a tough enemy together.
Suzuki: Last time, there were many moments when you all helped us out, and it became clear to me that I would do anything to see your faces! From there, we're aiming even higher with this Zepp tour, so we'll do our absolute best to show you an even cooler side of us!
