Hamanaka Town East Hokkaido

A photo of wild sea otters taken in the Eastern Hokkaido area has become a hot topic on social media. What kind of scene was it?

This morning, just like every other morning!
I saw a sight I've never seen before: a sea otter mother and pup, along with three other sea otters 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

An incredibly rare sight of an adorable sea otter mother and pup, along with three other sea otters, all in one frame! One of the otters, with its paw raised, looks as if it's saying "Hi!" to the camera. This is a moment you don't get to see every day, and the post received a huge response with over 19,000 likes.

Eastern Hokkaido's Rich Nature and Wildlife, Unseen on the Main Island

The photographer, degu, is an animal lover who lives outside of Hokkaido. This was their first visit to the Eastern Hokkaido area, having come with a friend who also loves animals to "go see wildlife."

"I was impressed by how rich in nature it was, seeing mammals and birds everywhere that you wouldn't see on Honshu (Japan's main island)," degu said. Besides sea otters, one of the charms of Eastern Hokkaido is the unexpected encounters with wildlife such as Ezo red foxes, Ezo sika deer, and wild birds.

Observe Quietly and Respectfully

Post by degu_rsmsp

When observing wildlife, it's important to follow local rules, such as not making loud noises and maintaining a proper distance, to protect the environment where the animals can live in peace. When you visit Eastern Hokkaido, please bring your binoculars or camera and watch them from a distance as they live their lives freely.
