It is named after its appearance like a white beard.
With a drop of about 30 meters, it is one of the tourist attractions in the "Biei Shirogane Onsen Hot Spring Resort" where visitors can get a close-up look at the underground water seeping out from between the natural rocks and flowing down into the mountain stream with great force, and the cobalt blue sparkling Biei River splashing in the air. This waterfall is classified as a "submerged flow explosion," which is rare in Japan.
The view from the bridge commonly called "Blue River" is also recommended.
In winter, the contrast between the waterfall's streaks, the white of the snow, and the rock surface becomes more prominent, and the spray and steam rising from the waterfall create fog and ice on the trees, making the view even more fantastic.
The lighting up of Shirohige Falls is held throughout the year.
