In Hokkaido, a white world spreads out in winter, and after a snowfall, trees are covered with snow on their branches, creating a fantastic atmosphere. As we grow older, however, it becomes more and more difficult and a bit depressing. But as the seasons come and go, we are greeted with a world of white. Snow falls in books and literary works. In the works of literature, various kinds of snow are depicted, including romantic snow, snow that fell when people were happy or sad, and snow that accompanied the hardships of pioneering.
This exhibition introduces novels, poems, tanka, haiku, willow poems, and picture books depicting snow from works related to Hokkaido. Feel the coldness and warmth of snow in literature.
*Readings, storytelling sessions, workshops, and other events are scheduled during the exhibition. Please contact us for details.
