The Northern Territories Awareness Facility is located on a hill near the central town of Rausu-cho, Shiretoko, a World Natural Heritage Site. From the observatory, located 167 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the town center of Rausu-cho and the Northern Territories and Kunashiri Island. Part of the facility is closed during the year-end and New Year's holidays, but the rooftop observation roof is open for viewing the first sunrise of the year. Depending on the season, whales and drift ice can also be seen at this great observation spot.
