The Misogi Festival is a Shinto ritual that has been held since 1831. Every year, four young men known as gyōshūsha seclude themselves at Samegawa Shrine from January 13th, training themselves by repeatedly pouring cold water over themselves. On the 15th, they purify the deity in the bitter cold of the Tsugaru Straits and pray for good catches and harvests in the year to come.

During this period, the "Winter Misogi Festival" will also be held, featuring a variety of events, creating a very lively atmosphere.
