Overview

Altitude 800m. At the sky's lake "Lake Shikaribetsu," which is located at the highest altitude among lakes within Hokkaido, when December enters, a sub-zero world visits. This lake, which boasts one of the nation's leading transparencies, with the arrival of sub-zero temperatures, gradually begins to freeze, and in late December, the lake surface is completely covered with ice. What appears on this completely frozen lake surface is the phantom village "Shikaribetsu Lake Kotan" only for winter's duration.

The village appears from late January until the end of March's, only 60 days. Too beautiful, and mysterious and fantastic snow and ice world. It is a special event only for winter's Lake Shikaribetsu, named "Kotan," which means village in Ainu language.
