This is the only international ice sculpture competition in Japan, held at the same time as the Asahikawa Winter Festival. In addition to participants selected from all over Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, participants from overseas also participate. Using eight icicles (16 for groups), participants spend 38 hours (40 hours for groups) carving their work.

After the event, beautifully lit ice sculptures will be exhibited along a stretch of approximately 1km from JR Asahikawa Station to Asahikawa Heiwadori Shopping Park on 7-jo Street.
