Overview
At Horokayanto, located in the Bansei district of Taiki Town, the Taiki Fisheries Cooperative Association releases smelt eggs, attracting many anglers to fish for smelt every winter. Smelt fishing is also known as "hole fishing," in which you drill a hole in the ice, drop your fishing line, and wait for a bite. The smelt you catch can be eaten whole, deliciously, in tempura or deep-fried dishes. Why not enjoy smelt fishing, the true joy of winter?
