The town closest to space, where Japan's clearest stream flows.

Population:5,300
Taiki Town is located in the eastern part of Hokkaido, in the south of Tokachi. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Hidaka Mountains to the west. In its central part, the vast Tokachi Plain spreads out, and the town has developed with agriculture, fishing, and forestry as its key industries. The town's name comes from the Ainu word "Taikushi," which means "a place where large trees grow in clusters."
The "Rekifune River," Japan's clearest stream, flows from the Hidaka Mountains through the town, and a primeval flower garden spreads along the coast, blessing the town with beautiful nature. In early spring, many canoeists visit the Rekifune River to enjoy river rafting. Additionally, at Bansei Onsen, located in a secluded part of the town, you can soak in a hot spring with a nationally rare water quality while enjoying the magnificent scenery. You can enjoy the rich blessings of nature throughout the year.
Taiki Town has developed by leveraging this blessed nature as a resource and through the constant challenges driven by the "pioneering spirit" of its predecessors. To promote community development where people and dreams can grow bigger, and to nurture both people and dreams, the town has adopted the theme: "'Taiki, the Cosmos Town' - A village of clear streams that colors life and the future."
Since being considered a candidate site for an "aerospace industry base" in the 1980s, Taiki Town has been promoting "space town development" through public-private partnerships. At the "Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO)" in the Bisei area of the town, various experiments are conducted by JAXA, private companies, universities, and others. Furthermore, various aerospace-related initiatives are being undertaken both inside and outside the town.
