The 57th Hokkai Belly Button Festival

Date and Time

2025/7/28~29

Furano City is located almost in the center of Hokkaido and is also known as the "navel of Hokkaido." The unique festival held as the annual festival of Kitashin Shrine (Heso Shrine) has a history of over 40 years, and the "Hokkai Heso Festival," which is held every year on July 28th and 29th, attracts 4,000 dancers and 70,000 spectators.

The parade is centered around the shopping district in front of Furano Station, where dancers paint faces on their stomachs, called "zuhara," use their navels as mouths, wear happi coats on their legs, and dance to pray for good health and success in life. Each face has a unique style, and the way they sway up and down in time with the dance is very humorous and gets the crowd excited. Tourists can not only take photos with the costumed dancers, but also temporarily join the performance team by painting a "zuhara" on their own stomachs, singing and dancing with the members.
