Hokkaido Museum currently has approximately 6,500 Ainu folk items in its collection. Of these, nearly 200 are clothing items, which is a significantly larger collection than other museums in Japan that have Ainu folk items in their collection. However, in view of the important role of the museum, "material preservation," the number of clothing items that can be displayed in the museum's general exhibition room is usually extremely limited.
In this exhibition, we will be showcasing the extensive collection of Ainu clothing in our museum's collection, including actual items as well as photographs of the materials.
