EVENT
Before
who we are : art as a mirror of identity
Date and Time
2025/6/10~15
11:00-18:00
Last day only: 11:00-15:00
The exhibition explores the concept of "identity" as a mirror of artistic creation, and is themed on a journey of self-discovery through creative practice. Each artist is unique, and their work not only reflects the world around them, but also their own existence, experiences, emotions and contradictions. Art is both a place to explore reality, and a space for the artist to confront and introspect on his or her own image.
Each section of the exhibition presents one artist and a selection of their work, showcasing how their worldview and self-expression reveal how their personal and cultural identities influence their creative practice. The works on display span a variety of disciplines, including painting, drawing and collage, highlighting the diversity of the ways in which artists explore and communicate their essence.
Who We Are: Art as a Mirror of Identity is a journey within and beyond art, illuminating how the search for identity is one of the most intimate and universal acts of being human. Through their work, artists invite us to look into the mirror and, perhaps for the first time, recognize the connection between ourselves and our inner world.
The exhibition was curated by Italian art curator Vanessa Viti. The artists are from Germany, Turkey, the United States and Reunion Island. The exhibition aims to present works by artists from around the world and provide the city of Sapporo with an opportunity to encounter international art.
