The original story, "Fallen Cherry Blossoms," was written by Kishida Kunio in 1925, and the setting has been rewritten and adapted to modern-day Sapporo.
The setting, which was an arranged marriage during the Taisho era, has been replaced in the Reiwa era by a smartphone-based matchmaking website, and the daughter and mother, who are being pressured by the potential partner to give an OK or no, converse under a small cherry tree whose flowers have already fallen and the leaves have turned into a comedy as they explore each other's wavering feelings.
