Centering on the collection of Otoineppu Village, we will introduce Sunazawa Bikki's works from his early period until his late years. Furthermore, exhibiting his works together with related books, we will go on to decipher his unique worldview. Also, at this museum's lobby, we will make public the masterpiece "Me (Sprout)" which was formerly installed in Asahikawa National College of Technology's courtyard. Please see up close the traces carved by nature's action, which Bikki was calling "the chisel named 'wind and snow'."

＜Sunazawa Bikki＞
Sunazawa Bikki (1931-1989), who is from Asahikawa, developed diverse creative activities, from dynamic wood carving masterpieces to craft works with delicately carved patterns, and spontaneously drawn drawings.
In between his creations, Bikki would seclude himself in his study room and was reading. His book collection ranges widely, starting with the writings of Tatsuhiko Shibusawa with whom he had friendship, art such as Surrealism, ethnic art from various parts of the world, and things depicting the coexistence of humans and nature. Among those, there are also things that lead to the themes and motifs of Bikki's works, and one can glimpse and know the trends in art and literature of the 20th century in which he lived.
