This is a festival with over 100 years of history, affectionately known by citizens as the 'Sapporo Matsuri.' During the 'Mikoshi Togyo' (Portable Shrine Procession) held on the 16th, more than 1,000 citizens dressed in colorful costumes reminiscent of Heian period picture scrolls parade through the city with nine festival floats, centered around four mikoshi (portable shrines) carrying the deities of Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. Starting from Hokkaido Jingu Shrine in Maruyama, in the afternoon as the procession passes through the city center, time is set aside at the Minami 1-jo Nishi 4-chome intersection for the presentation of the mikoshi and floats, where many citizens gather. At Hokkaido Jingu Shrine, food stalls are set up and traditional dedicatory events are held, and within Nakajima Park, numerous stalls and attractions like haunted houses line the paths.
