Takumi Sato Solo Exhibition "Marinke, Marinke"
Date and Time
2026/3/19~30
Opening Hours : 11:00 – 18:00
Closed Days : Tuesday, Wednesday
On this occasion, Gallery Monma will hold the first solo exhibition of Takumi Sato.
To date, Sato, while basing his work on a fundamental interest in people moving to a place to live, has focused on the history, culture, and related figures of Hokkaido, and has engaged in activities such as creating paintings and installations, as well as planning exhibitions, conducting research, and writing.
The work "Marinke, Marinke" (2024), which also became the title of the exhibition, is a series based on the theme of Sato's grandfather's family photographs, and the title originates from the words his grandfather was said to have been called by Russians. Karafuto, where the photographs were taken, is now a foreign country that, while geographically close, is psychologically distant.
In addition, this exhibition will feature works such as the series "The Earth Has No Outline, and Water Too Has No Outline," which uses maps as a motif to re-examine the very act of "drawing."
Using various motifs related to Hokkaido, the works of Sato, who has continued to search for his own place through his creative process by moving back and forth between the individual and society, memory and records, and story and fact, are taking on ever-increasing significance today, 80 years after the war, as conflicts between nations intensify. Please come and visit.
