Overview

A symposium will be held, hosted by Hokkaido, Hakodate City, the Hakodate Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hakodate Oshima Hiyama Zero Carbon Hokkaido Promotion Council, and the Hakodate Port Utilization Promotion Council. In July of last year, the sea areas off the coast of Matsumae and Hiyama were designated as 'promotion zones' under the Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities, the first such designation within Hokkaido. As a result, there are high expectations for the entry of Hokkaido-based companies into the offshore wind power generation business and for the promotion of the accumulation of related industries.

Furthermore, the national government and other bodies are currently advancing initiatives toward the practical application of floating offshore wind power generation. Under these circumstances, with the aim of deepening everyone's understanding of topics such as the utilization of ports, which are expected to become part of the supply chain in the Oshima and Hiyama region in the future, and the ripple effects on the local economy, we will hold a symposium titled 'The Future of the Oshima and Hiyama Region Pioneered by Floating Offshore Wind Power Generation'.
