Overview

In many cities around the world, there is a movement to boldly transform cities by setting specific goals and plans in the urban sector for adaptation and mitigation of climate change. In Japan as well, players involved in urban and community development are required to actively address environmental issues and transform cities, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is promoting 'Machizukuri GX' to take measures against climate change, ensure biodiversity, and improve well-being.

Aiming to create opportunities for a new movement by promoting the fusion of the environment and urban development fields, as well as the exchange and development of human resources involved, the Urban Environment Division has been holding the 'GX Creation Meeting' since Reiwa 6 (2024). In Reiwa 8 (2026), following last year, we will hold the 'GX Creation Meeting 2026' in collaboration with the Special Committee on Environment of The City Planning Institute of Japan, aiming for the development of the urban environment field.
