Overview
Shimokawa Town and the Nikkei ESG Management Forum will hold the "Hokkaido Shimokawa Town SDGs Study Tour." This time, we will welcome Professor Keisuke Takegahara from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies as a lecturer. Under the theme "Learning about mechanisms to connect regional decarbonization efforts to the revitalization of the local economy and corporate value creation," we will conduct lectures and workshops. Additionally, we will introduce Shimokawa Town's sustainable initiatives while visiting facilities such as the town's woody biomass heat supply facility and forest management sites.
<Overview of Shimokawa Town>
Shimokawa Town is a small town with a population of about 2,800 in the northern part of Hokkaido. About 90% of the town's area is covered by forests, and it has been a pioneer in promoting regional revitalization utilizing woody biomass. In 2018, it was designated as an SDGs Future City and is promoting the "realization of a sustainable local community" through value creation and integrated solutions from the three aspects of economy, society, and environment. Furthermore, in March 2022, aiming to become a town with virtually zero CO2 emissions by 2050, it declared itself "Zero Carbon City Shimokawa."
Currently, town residents are taking the lead in implementing various measures and projects, such as formulating "The Desired Vision of Shimokawa Town in 2030 (Shimokawa Version of SDGs)."
