Route 227 has long been an important road for the exchange of people and goods between Hakodate and the Esashi area. Kotaki-no-Sawa (Encounter Falls) is 12 m high and 7 m wide, and although it appears dimly lit in the shadows of the trees, during the season of autumn leaves, a beautiful mountain stream waterfall is depicted in vivid colors.
