Electric communication place of connection
Overview
The telephone communication between Hokkaido and Karafuto was connected by submarine cable.
For the 30 years of Shōwa 9 to 39, Sarufutsu Village Hama-Sarufutsu was the relay point of the landing site.
In terms of straight-line distance, Wakkanai City is closer, but, by such things as the flow of the tide, Sarufutsu Village Hama-Sarufutsu was chosen as the relay point, it seems.
After defeat in the Second World War, at the occasion of the Maoka Incident of Shōwa 20 year August 20 day, the Sarufutsu Telephone Relay Station received the last message of the telephone operators of the Maoka Post Office who committed suicide.
The repose of souls of the deceased telephone operators and the achievements of telecommunications are being conveyed to future generations.
