SPOT
Joutai Pasture and Joutai Skyline
Located about 10 km northeast of JR Nanae Station and about 12 km southeast of JR Onuma Koen Station, 160 hectares of grassland has been developed and is currently used as a town-owned ranch. At an elevation of 550 meters, it is cool and comfortable even in mid-summer. The first snow falls in late October and melts from late April to early May, and a sea of clouds can be seen when the conditions are right.
The "Jotai Skyline," which passes through the ranch, is a winding asphalt-paved road 7.5 meters wide and 14 kilometers long that connects the center of Nanae Town and the tourist destination Onuma area, where you can enjoy the fresh greenery in early summer and the autumn leaves in fall.
The scenic ranch overlooks Mt. Komagatake to the north, Mt. Hakodate to the south, and the Ono Plain to the southwest. From the observation deck along the road, visitors can enjoy the wonderful natural scenery during the day and the jewel-like night view of Hakodate, nicknamed "Seven-Star Nightscape," at night. During the fall foliage season, the Jotai Skyline, which passes through the ranch, turns bright red, delighting the eyes of visitors as well as the view from the summit.
