SPOT
Shirotai Ranch and Shirotai Skyline
Located about 10 kilometers northeast of JR Nanae Station and about 12 kilometers southeast of JR Onuma Koen Station, the area currently has 160 hectares of grassland developed and is used as a town-run pasture. At an altitude of 550 meters, the area is cool and comfortable even in midsummer. The first snow falls in late October and melts between late April and early May, and if conditions are right, you may even be able to see a sea of clouds.
The Shirotai Skyline, which passes through the ranch, is a 7.5-meter-wide, 14-kilometer-long winding asphalt road that connects the center of Nanae Town with the tourist destination of the Onuma district. You can enjoy the scenery from the fresh greenery of early summer to the colorful leaves of autumn.
This scenic ranch offers a panoramic view of Mount Komagatake to the north, Mount Hakodate to the south, and the Ono Plain to the southwest, and from the observation deck along the road you can enjoy the magnificent natural scenery during the day, and at night the jewel-studded night view of Hakodate behind the scenes, nicknamed the "Seven Star Night View." During the autumn foliage season, the Shirotai Skyline that passes through the ranch turns bright red, delighting the eyes of visitors along with the view from the summit.
