Ancestor's Pine
This is a yew tree that is said to be over 1,300 years old. It is very large, with a height of 18m, a diameter of 2.4m, and a trunk circumference of 7.5m, and was ranked second in the national yew category in a survey of giant trees and forests conducted in 1990. It is also designated as a cultural asset of Shibetsu City.
Yew is also known as Onko or Araragi, and is a very familiar tree in Hokkaido. In Shibetsu City, this ancestral pine tree has been worshiped as the guardian deity of the mountains. Please come and see the majestic appearance of the yew tree that has been nurtured by a history of 1,300 years.
