The Former Sorachi Coal Mine Club was constructed in Meiji 30 (1897) by Hokkaido Coal Mine Railway Co., Ltd. as employee lodging for Hokutan Sorachi Mine. Repeating expansions and renovations countless times, it became a club for exclusive entertainment from Shōwa 29 (1954), and even after being handed over to Sorachi Coal Mine Co., Ltd. in Shōwa 38 (1963), it welcomed warmly numerous guests until welcoming the mine closure in Heisei 7 (1995). A part of the building was removed, but from the fact that it is a structure making one recall the coal mine's heyday, the Western-style main building and the Sukiya-style annex were restored, and it was decided to preserve them permanently by the nickname "Komorebi no Mori Memorial Hall."
