Country Designated Important Cultural Property Former Hanada Family Watchman's Hut
As for buildings, it is the northernmost nationally designated Important Cultural Property. In Heisei 13, it has also been certified as Hokkaido Heritage. Built around Meiji 38, it possesses the largest scale among existing banya within Hokkaido, a large herring fishing family where employees at that time exceeded 200 people. It is co-located with a "Roadside Station", and is open to the public throughout the year. Also, across National Route 232, on the sea side, there is Herring Culture History Park, and a statue of Hokkaido's namer, Elder Takeshirō Matsuura, is standing. Every year in late May, the Herring Banya Festival is held. Various games and events are held, and it is bustling with many visitors.
