Nukumori-no-Sato "Mukaiyokan"
Nukumori-no-Sato "Mukaiyokan" is an art gallery by Kaname Takahashi, a painter, located in the 90-year-old closed Mukaiyoshi Elementary School.
The classrooms, gymnasium, and hallways are filled with more than 470 works of art using the three-dimensional technique of realism and chevron canvas.
The works vary in theme from still life, figures, insects, landscapes, and imaginary worlds, and the sheer size and power of the works are overwhelming.
The most impressive of these is the "Imaginary Land (Life)," a 10-meter long and 12.5-meter wide work on display in the gymnasium.
The work began in 1999 and will take 30 years to complete in 2029.
No other work of art in Japan has been painted on such a large canvas for 30 years.
