Literary Monument Park
Overview
Toyoura has a surprisingly long history, perhaps due to the fact that many people have lived in and visited the area since time immemorial, attracted by its scenic beauty. Many historical sites and legends remain. Poets and writers representing modern literature, such as Mokichi Saito, Tetsuhiro and Akiko Yosano, and Sei Ito, have visited the area and praised the beauty of Toyoura's coast, and monuments to their poems and essays have been built in the Literary Monument Park. Also known as the Romantic Coast, the sunset from this park against the backdrop of the Cape of Beauty on the scenic Rebunka Coast in Toyoura is truly a moving and beautiful sight.
