Koboro Station
Now, let's go to "Japan's most secluded station."
Between tunnels, within that limited space of only about 80m, there is "Koboro Station," called Japan's number one secluded station. Of course, there are no private houses, and no roads leading to the outside either. Why is there a station in such a place?
Actually, this place was originally a location established as a signal box for trains to pass each other. After that, because there were fishermen and others residing in the vicinity, it was promoted to a passenger station at the time of JR's establishment. However, as time passed, people living in the vicinity of Koboro Station disappeared, and the daily users of Koboro Station became almost zero. And then in 2015, JR Hokkaido finally notified Toyoura Town of its intention to abolish Koboro Station. In response to that, many people regretting its abolition visited Koboro Station, which can also be called Japan's number one secluded station. Toyoura Town also requested the station's continued existence, stating that the town would maintain and manage it as a base for tourism promotion. Thus, Koboro Station avoided abolition, and even now, many railway fans are visiting it as an active secluded station.
