SPOT
Pogawa Historic Site Nature Park
The park consists of three sections: the park entrance area with the History and Folklore Museum and the Kaitakushi Village; Shibetsu Marsh, a designated national natural treasure, where marshland plants said to be survivors of the Ice Age bloom; and Ichani-Karikariusu Site, a designated national historic site that marks approximately 10,000 years of human footprints.
With a total area of approximately 630 hectares, the park covers an area equivalent to Ozegahara, the largest mountainous wetland in Japan, and functions as an outdoor museum integrating the history, culture, and nature of the Shiretoko area.
