Tomamae: Where Sea and Land Bless the Town

Population:2,700
Tomamae Town, located in the northwestern part of Hokkaido in the Rumoi region, is a small community with a population of around 3,000. Facing the Sea of Japan, it is surrounded by neighboring towns such as Horokanai, Obira, and Haboro, offering a peaceful environment shaped by both sea and land.
The climate reflects the Sea of Japan side, with strong seasonal winds and snowfall in winter, while summers are relatively mild. The coastal scenery and expansive rural landscapes showcase the region’s simple yet powerful natural beauty.
The town has two distinct areas: the Tomamae area, known for its thriving fishing industry including scallop farming and sweet shrimp, and the Kotanbetsu area, where agriculture such as rice and melon cultivation flourishes. It is a region rich in both marine and agricultural products.
