Japan’s Northernmost Frontier: A Mystic Island of Sheer Cliffs and Rolling Hills

Population:2,200
Rebun Town, Japan's northernmost island community, is known as the "Offshore Island." Located west of Wakkanai, it features a unique geography: gentle eastern slopes contrasted with dramatic western sea cliffs. Warmed by the Tsushima Current, it enjoys cooler summers and milder winters than inland Hokkaido. While flat land is scarce, the island's rolling hills and rugged coastline create a "northern frontier" beauty. Rebun is a land of powerful nature, characterized by high sunshine in spring and autumn, mystical summer fogs, and strong winter winds.
