Kimobetsu is a town with a population of about 2,300, located adjacent to Sapporo's Minami Ward. National Routes 230 and 276 intersect here, and it is conveniently located about 90 minutes from major cities like Sapporo, Otaru, and Chitose. The town features beautiful views of Mt. Yotei and a tranquil rural landscape.
The name Kimobetsu is derived from the Ainu phrase "kim-o-pet," meaning "river in the mountains." True to its origin, the area has 41 rivers of various sizes, including the Shiribetsu and Kimobetsu rivers, and is home to mountains like Mt. Yotei, affectionately known as "Ezo Fuji," and Mt. Shiribetsu.
