Nanporo Town is a municipality with a population of approximately 8,000, situated roughly in the center of the Ishikari Plain. It is characterized by its flat terrain stretching as far as the eye can see, with no mountains or sea, offering expansive and beautiful rural landscapes. It boasts excellent accessibility, located about a 40-minute drive from both Sapporo City and New Chitose Airport. This makes it an environment where residents can enjoy rich nature while remaining within commuting distance of urban areas.
The climate features many sunny days throughout the year, with cool temperatures and plentiful sunshine. While one can experience the distinct changes of the four seasons, the flat terrain creates a vast, open sky. Everyday scenes are filled with beautiful, photogenic moments, such as the seemingly endless windbreak forests and fields shrouded in morning mist.
Agriculture, its key industry, is characterized by large-scale farming centered on rice cultivation, taking advantage of the vast flatlands. The town is also committed to environmentally friendly 'clean agriculture' that leverages its cool climate. Specialty products include 'Pure White,' a variety of white corn so sweet it can be eaten raw, and 'Cabbage Kimchi,' made from locally grown cabbage. It is a tranquil rural town brimming with culinary delights.
