A Genghis Khan Taste-Off in Naganuma! Sample 3 Famous Local Flavors at Naganuma Onsen

Genghis Khan is a signature dish of Hokkaido, and you can find famous restaurants serving it all over the region. Naganuma, a town just a 30-minute drive from New Chitose Airport, is one such place, boasting several renowned Genghis Khan establishments. What's more, we heard there's a dream-like spot in Naganuma where you can sample and compare the flavors of three of the town's most popular restaurants all at once. We had to check it out.

The place where you can have this Genghis Khan taste-off is Naganuma Onsen... that's right, it's a hot spring inn! Our destination, the "Genghis Khan Corner," is located in a separate building on the premises.
Although it's an annex, it has the feel of a fine, standalone restaurant. The spacious interior features raised tatami-mat seating with a full wall of windows, creating a wonderfully open atmosphere. Of course, you're welcome to come just for a meal without using the hot springs.
Now, let's get to ordering. First up is the "3-Variety Sampler Set" (1,600 yen, tax included). The dream of a taste comparison is finally coming true.
This set features 90g of loin from each of three popular restaurants: "Kanehiro Jingisukan," "Maoi Jingisukan," and "Naganuma Jingisukan," served with a side of vegetables.
The menu describes the flavor characteristics of each restaurant, which makes for fun reading as you eat. And when you actually compare them, you can clearly tell the difference in the marinades—some are sweeter, while others have a stronger garlic kick.
Many customers start with this 3-variety sampler set and then order more from their favorite of the three. It's a great way to discover your own taste preferences!
Besides Genghis Khan, the Genghis Khan Corner has another popular item on the menu: the "Super Premium Kimchi Horumon" (120g for 580 yen, tax included).
This dish is a rich and savory collaboration, featuring premium offal from Niku no Yamamoto marinated in "Super Premium Kimchi," known as the best-selling kimchi in Hokkaido. The unique texture of the high-quality offal and the subtle sweetness of the kimchi are a fantastic match! It's the kind of dish that makes you crave both rice and a cold beer.
By the way, rice must be ordered separately, but they use premium Nanatsuboshi rice grown locally in Naganuma. It pairs perfectly with Genghis Khan.

Comparing the flavors of popular Genghis Khan restaurants is an experience every foodie should try at least once. It might just exceed your expectations and help you rediscover the charm of Genghis Khan!
