Giant Icicles! The art created by the frozen "Shichijo Great Falls" is too mysterious!
Shichijo Great Falls is located on the outskirts of Tomakomai City. Lake Shikotsu is nearby. There is a national forest along Route 453, and we will walk along the First Longitudinal Forest Road to reach the falls. The Shichijo Otaki Entrance parking lot at the entrance to the forest road is not plowed, so it is best to use the free parking area near the southern direction from there.
Furthermore, there is a gate at the entrance to the forest road that is always closed, so you may be confused, "Am I really allowed to enter?" You may be puzzled. Cars are not allowed, but walking is fine. Go over the gate and walk along the forest road.
At the time of the interview, snow had been removed, but it is said that snow may not be removed from this forest road, so you may want to prepare snowshoes or other equipment. After walking for about 20 minutes, you will see a small sign.
There are two places where this sign is placed until you reach the waterfall. Just follow the arrows and the waterfall is just around the corner. ......, but the hard part actually starts here!
To approach Shichijo Great Falls, you must descend down a large ravine. Normally there are stairs, but they have disappeared due to the snowfall and have been stepped on by people who have come to see the waterfall, making it look like a slide!
The slope is quite steep in some places, so please be careful as you descend. If you make it through this last hurdle, you will be rewarded with a spectacular view.
The pictures will give you an idea of how powerful the ice fall of Shichijo Great Falls is. The waterfall itself is not exactly frozen, but the icicles and icicles that form around it create a mysterious atmosphere.
It is also called "Ice Palace" by the locals, which gives it a majestic, palace-like appearance.
One where the water spray has frozen, and the other where drops of water seeping out of the rocks have frozen. If you look closely, you can see the various expressions of ice, and it is as if you are witnessing the wonders of nature.
It is a time to forget the cold and simply be overwhelmed by the art of nature's weaving. There are a few hurdles to overcome, such as walking on snow-covered paths and down valleys, but it is worth it.
And to see the power of actually seeing it up close and personal, please watch the video as well!
Please make sure you are fully prepared for the challenge.
