Dot-Doto and Local Friends Staycation Report, their respective approaches

Dot Doto's vision is "to make Doto a place where ideals can be realized," and its members, mostly in their 20s and 30s, are engaged in regional branding and production of projects. Dot Doto is involved in a variety of initiatives in various regions of Doto, including the production of a series of creative projects such as the website and catch copy for the "Hokkaido Space Summit" held recently in Tokachi, and the "Mirusirushihoro" project to make the Shihoro shopping district more attractive.

The "Hokkaido Space Summit 2022" held in September 2022. Dot Doto was also involved in the direction and design of the space construction.

The "Mirusil Shihoro Book" distributed in Shihoro Town. Five intern students were also involved in its production.

On the other hand, NHK's "Local Friends Staying in Hokkaido" is aired every Thursday during the evening news program "Hot News Hokkaido. The director stays for a month with "Local Friends," who have deep connections in the region, to discover local treasures. The program has been attracting attention for its attempt to discover the charms of the region through its people.

The people and initiatives introduced in the program are thought up by the Local Friends, and the program policy is decided through discussions between the Local Friends and NHK.

Local Friends are recruited from the public. More than 20 diverse groups of people, including monks, fishermen, housewives, office workers, etc., have participated in the program.

Both projects are growing in presence. What is the future beyond the creation of friends!

Each of these initiatives is growing in presence every day. Dot Doto won the Japan Regional Contents Award in 2020 for its ".doto" publication project, and in 2022, it won the Good Design Award for its "Shizen no Sato Monogatari" branding project for people living in the Akan-Mashu National Park area. Local Friends Residency was also selected as one of the Good Design Best 100 in 2022. The common theme of both high-profile projects is "making friends.

How will we live in the future society with our friends? What kind of future awaits us after we make friends? Why don't you think about it with us? The deadline for pre-registration is Wednesday, November 23 (national holiday).
