When you think of Hokkaido's representative folk crafts, the wood-carved bear comes to mind. Now, this iconic bear has been transformed into an adorable "Wood Carving Bear Candle." We have a feeling this is about to become the new classic Hokkaido souvenir!

Uses a mold created by Kiyomi Horii, a woodcarver from Sapporo.

These art candles, modeled after wood-carved bears, were released by Tomioka Cleaning (Happy Tree Co., Ltd.) in Nakashibetsu, a town in eastern Hokkaido. The company actually launched a similar product seven years ago, but they've revamped it and brought it back just in time for the resurgence in tourism.

The parent bear is a palm-sized 10cm wide x 7cm high x 6cm deep. The cub is a mini 6.5cm wide x 4.5cm high x 3.5cm deep.

A closer look at the Wood Carving Bear Candle reveals incredible attention to detail, from the bear's glossy fur and expression to the shape of the salmon. And now, a bear cub has joined the family! A new brown color has also been added. While the traditional, nostalgic wood-carved bears can be large and difficult to take home, these palm-sized candles are the perfect souvenir.
